Owing to growth and expansion, and to aid in the impressive ambitions of Shropshire Trading, we are seeking a General Manager to oversee and drive strategy, manage and grow a team, build relationships and drive the business forward in new and existing “Short-dated goods” markets.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year

Schedule: Monday to Friday, No weekends

Supplemental pay types:Bonus scheme, Commission pay, Performance bonus, Yearly bonus

Ability to commute/relocate: Shrewsbury: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Job Details

Working with an already established team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the company strategy, vision and goals
  • Directing and control supply and risk policy
  • Implementation of processes in order to ensure policies are followed
  • Leading a team of traders by taking part in Trading activities
  • Managing relationships with key suppliers, customers and stakeholders
  • Managing, training and mentoring staff.
  • Reviewing and reporting on KPI’s for the whole team, including monthly P&L
  • Control company bonus structure and staff wages
  • Take overall responsibility for purchasing, trading, logistics and accounts

At Shropshire Trading, no two days are the same. This is a busy, exciting and varied role, that will present its challenges, but also significant rewards.

Don’t worry if you have never worked in the FMCG industry, it’s not all about your past-experience, although transferable skills are important. Rather we are seeking the right personality with the relevant skills.

Important skills and qualities.

Management and leadership. The role not only involves managing the office-based team, but also managing relationships with all stakeholders involved with the company. The team will look to you to lead, direct, inspire them, whilst also recognising and promoting positive elements, whilst identifying areas where training is required.

Great communication skills. This job is all about building relationships, which will differ person to person and company to company. It is important the at the successful candidate has the ability to communicate clearly and with reason, but also to understand and act upon the communication that you are receiving (internally or externally)

Passion. As a manager, the successful candidate will be required to lead a team, having confidence in one’s own ability is essential. Organisation. The general Manager will be responsible formany important elements within the business. It is important that the successful manager has demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced environment, juggling many different tasks. The ability to manage time, show attention to detail, prioritise tasks and organise is essential

IT and Numeration. Shropshire Trading use bespoke CRM software to assist the whole team manage daily tasks, as well as the usual Microsoft Office suit packages. The job demands strong IT skills, as well as basic elements of accounting, not least in the tracking and reporting of P&L. You don’t need to be a computer programmer and full training on all systems is given. However, you must have a reasonable ability with IT as well as the ability to retain information.
