Working with our Partners at Shropshire Trading, we are seeking Traders to buy and sell “Short-dated goods” working with the UK’s largest retailers.

Owing to the phenomenal growth and far-reaching ambitions, there are a number of opportunities to join this environmentally conscious and green-focused company.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year

Schedule: Monday to Friday, No weekends

Supplemental pay types:Bonus scheme, Commission pay, Performance bonus, Yearly bonus

Ability to commute/relocate: Shrewsbury: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Job Details

A Trader’s primary role is to establish and grow important relationships with clients and customers alike, predominantly via the Telephone and through E-mail. With the aim of finding a win / win solution for all parties concerned. E.g. Matching a supplier that has excess stock, with a customer that has a need.

In addition, successful candidates will complete market research tasks, which in turn will lead to finding and forming relationships with new suppliers and clients alike. In a nutshell, that’s the job. – But there is much more to it than that.

Don’t worry if you have never traded in the FMCG industry, it’s not all about your past-experience, although transferable skills are important. Rather we are seeking the right personalities.

Passion. Great communication skills. This job is all about building relationships, which are achieved through clear, concise and friendly communication. Not only in relaying information, but also in listening to, and understanding both suppliers and customers needs.

Negotiation. As a trader, negotiation skills are essential, therefore having the ability to look objectively, analyse and stratagise to use soft skill persuasion techniques to find the compromise is essential.

Confidence. It’s important to have confidence in your own ability, but also have the confidence to share ideas and opportunities (Such as a new seasonal market ideas). Or having the confidence to raise concerns or spotting potential shortcomings. Shropshire Trading have an excellent training programme, excellent passionate mentors, continual improvement sessions and a wealth of team experience, all of which will give you the confidence to do the job, however we are seeking people who are assured of their own ability. People with an optimistic outlook.

IT, Numeration and organisation. Shropshire Trading use bespoke CRM software to easily manage daily tasks, as well as the usual Microsoft Office suit packages. The job demands strong organisational and attention to detail skills. You don’t need to be a computer programmer, but the successful candidate will have demonstratable IT, math and organisational skills. Full training on all systems is given but the ability to retain information is essential.

What can you expect to earn

  • A starting salary of £20k to £25k depending on your skill and experience level
  • Following 3 months training, traders are put on the uncapped team bonus, adding approximately £4k in on target bonus – This can be higher
  • The bonus is tiered, meaning as you progress through the company, you can expect to be on a higher tiered bonus, as well as progression and a higher salary. A senior trader can expect to take home £40k to £50k OTE. A good trader will achieve Senior level after about 1 year.
