We all know how important a first impression is, and during an interview process, there may be several times when you’ll introduce yourself. To help navigate these tricky waters we’ve identified best practices for conducting yourself in an interview.
The beginning of any conversation is key to giving off the right impression. Showing your confidence in your ability and how you match up to the job role, is vital.
One common interview question you may be asked early on is, “Tell me about yourself.” Practising this is key and can help guide your answer. Keep it concise and focused on why your background makes you the best fit for the job opportunity. A good practice for this is by studying the job role and linking your skills up to what they’re looking for.
For example, ‘I have five years experience in this particular job role, here are the tasks I have done.’ This will give the potential employer a better understanding of how you match up to the job advertised.
Communication and actively engaging with your interviewer are imperative in an interview. When asked a question, it is good practice to answer with a confident and relevant answer. A great way to prepare for this is to research interview questions beforehand, this will make sure you are not thrown off guard and will allow you to give a more confident approach, whilst communicating and giving your best answer to the question asked.
Body language plays a key role in the first impression whilst in an interview. A great way to improve your body language is to sit up straight, maintain eye contact, and to be sat directly in front of the interviewer. Employers may also pay close attention to how you speak. To ensure that your verbal language is also suitable for a formal situation. Speak in a clear voice and use proper grammar, you may feel comfortable with your interviewer, but you still must maintain a level of respect and class, so avoid using offensive words.

Beeline Personnel provided us with an excellent service when we were looking for a senior member of our team. Their commitment to sourcing the right quality of candidate was borne out in the time they spent on site, making a short video about the role and meeting with our team.
It really felt like they understood our culture and therefore were able to provide with two high-quality candidates for the position. We will definitely be using them again as their approach was so much more innovative and effective than other agencies.
