Your profile is your opener. This is what potential employers are looking at first when they open your CV. It’s where they’re going to find out a little bit about you.
So make it interesting. Don’t start with a, “I work well in a team and I’m very hard-working.”
Everyone does that, you need something different. Sure, the job market is competitive but no one is you. Leverage that to your advantage.
When it comes to your work experience, especially if you’ve been working for a few years now, don’t go back to 2001.
15 years’ work experience is fine. If anyone wants to know any more about you from before that time, they can ask you. You don’t need to go back 30 to 40 years to showcase what you can do.
If you’re new to job-hunting, and you don’t have much to pad out your CV, that’s okay. Just make sure what you do put is relevant. How has that experience better prepared for you for the job you’re applying for? Why is your work history beneficial to their company?
One thing we come across a lot, is simple mistakes and typos on CVs.
That just can’t happen. It doesn’t give the right impression and we would hate for you to miss out on an awesome job opportunity because you didn’t triple check yourself.
Spell-check it, grammar-check it and then do it again.
Ask somebody to read through it before you send it anywhere.
The number of people we speak to that are highly qualified senior managers and their CVs have got spelling errors. Not the ideal scenario!
It’s important to make sure that your CV looks good and has great content.
